THE CITIZENS’ SACAJAWEA PROJECT
in Partnership with
The Agui Dika Familial Descendants of Sacajawea
She was always there…but where is she?
Sacajawea — born in Idaho's Lemhi Valley, kidnapped at thirteen, and thrust onto the most consequential expedition in American history at fifteen — guided thirty-three men across an unknown continent while carrying her infant son on her back. She was the first woman to vote on American soil. A century later, the suffragette movement named her their role model. The world has honored her with more statues than any American woman except Joan of Arc. Yet Idaho — her birth state — has no monument to Sacajawea at the Boise Capitol
This is a volunteer citizens' campaign to change that.
Help us put a statue by the award-winning sculptor and Idahoan, Mary Michael, next to the existing bronze statues of Meriweather Lewis, William Clark, the Nez Perce Chief, Twisted Hair in downtown Boise.
Why Sacajawea is missing from this exiting memorial is not important. What matters now is that you can be part of the movement to ensure she stands in her rightful place as an essential member of the Corps of Discovery forever.
Every tax-deductible donation — whatever amount — makes you and your descendants a permanent part of Sacajawea’s legacy in bronze. When Idahoans and visitors from around the world stand before her likeness at the Boise Capitol, your contribution will have helped make her history visible.
There is no minimum donation. There is only the deep, lasting satisfaction of knowing you helped place this Idaho-born icon in her rightful place. Next to Lewis & Clark. In bronze. At the Boise Capitol. Every donation receives a tax-deductible receipt. Every dollar counts toward the $150,000.00 cost of the project and installation.
